Whirlpool Galaxy Interacting with Companion Galaxy on 2008-05-05 at Moscow Mills

80cm Newt 20080505_03:31 to 03:47UT S2/10 T5/6
Canon 20d, ImagesPlus 2.80, GradientXterminator, Neat Image
Only 16 minutes of 15-second frames out of 40 minutes of integration were useable due to
tracking errors at an altitude of 75° and in the last 20 minutes the focus inexplicably went out.

Saturn on May 4th shows the 2 storms to be still active.

These images taken only 36 minutes apart show the movement of the two storms following the rotational speed of Saturn in its South Temperate zone of 10 hours 39 minutes 24 seconds. It’s interesting that even with such poor seeing, contrast features can be readily displayed. Good seeing. Jim Melka

Saturn on April 30 showing 2 storms & on April 23, 2008

Image frames were recorded on the evening of April 29th and combined using Registax V 4.0. The seeing was bad overall, but two AVIs were useable. Besides the two large spots above center and to the right, there appear three other small spots to the left of center just below the broad red belt. A high resolution image by Christopher Go shows that area to be agitated. Good seeing, Jim	Image frames were recorded on the evening of April 22nd and combined using Registax V 4.0. The seeing was good as evidenced by Cassini’s division in the rings being resolved for most of its circumference. The moon Tethys is visible to the left of Saturn. Jim Melka

Better seeing makes for more definition of the bands and zones on Saturn as well as the Cassini division in the rings. Good seeing. Jim Melka	A change in the upper atmosphere flow pattern provided steadier seeing and higher resolution of features. Jim Melka

Dust cloud in Western Aetheria recorded in April 15th images.

What looks like a dust cloud near the Northeastern limb appears as a deeper and brighter hue than the surrounding desert in the color image. And it is very bright in red light. The coordinates of the cloud are 44.5N and 252W which is an area known as Aetheria. Good seeing. Jim Melka
